Learning in the Workplace explained – for employers

Employers, have you ever thought about employing an Apprentice? We can arrange this for you, including:

Advertising the post
Collecting the Applicants
Arranging the Interviews
Managing the Paperwork

Your Apprentice could be working at your setting for between 16 and 30 hours per week as well as attending York Learning (West Offices) for one session per week.

All you need to provide is the vocational experience and £119.00 per week for their training wage. (35hrs x £3.40 =£119.00 per week)

If you have not employed an Apprentice within the last year you could access the Apprenticeship Age Grant. This is a one off payment of £1200 – £2000 to help with the cost of your Apprentices wage.(We can also organise this for you)

Quick FAQ

As an employer, the amount you pay will depend on your paybill. Levy paying employers will pay for apprenticeships through the Apprenticeship Levy, while Non-Levy paying employers will pay 10% and the Government will pay 90% of the cost.  See our explanation of the Apprenticeship Reforms for more information.

On average one year, although courses vary up to two years. Depending on your circumstances you can start at any time.

An assessor will visit you regularly in the workplace and offer support and advice. You will also be given help to improve your English and maths. Drop in sessions are available if you’d like the support.

An apprenticeship has the following qualification components:
Technical Certificate
Vocational NVQ
English, Maths, ICT qualifications
