What is it?

York Learning’s autumn Community Crafts project is fast becoming an annual event! Our learners and members of the local community sew, craft, applique, knit and crochet Christmas stockings, fill it with sweets and we distribute them through York Food banks, IDAS (the Independent Domestic Abuse Service) and other local York Homeless charities. In 2019, we collected and filled over 700 stockings!

How can I get involved?

Make a stocking – either on your own, or as part of a group. Each stocking should be no more than 35cm long & 20cm wide if possible. Lots of templates are available on the internet, we don’t mind which you use – as long as your stocking matches our dimensions. Send us your photos both during and after making & we’ll pop them on Twitter & Facebook to inspire others. Once you’ve made it, fill it with sweets (as long as they are pre-wrapped, not home made and in date) or stationery – pens, pencils, notebooks… anything that will fit inside a stocking.
