Learning a language doesn’t just improve your travelling experiences. You’ll also benefit from:

If you’re not sure which level to study, use the information below as a guide or contact us and ask a tutor for guidance. Most courses start in September, but you can often join at the start of the Spring (January) or Summer (April) terms.

Beginners & Beginners Plus

Learn the basics of a language.

Year 2

Build on the basics to introduce yourself and discuss details when buying goods or services. This level will be suitable for you if you have studied the language recently for one or two years.

Year 3

Further develop your language skills to socialise with native speakers. This level will be suitable for you if you have recently studied the language for 2 or 3 years or would like to brush up on skills which you have learnt over several years in the past.

Year 4

Consolidate what you have learnt to explore the culture of the country to describe people and places. This level will be suitable for you if you have recently studied the language for at least three years or have taken a GCSE/A-level.

Year 5

Continue to build upon learnt skills by discussing topical subjects such as food, shopping and travel. This course will be suitable for you if you have already studied the language for at least four years or have taken a GCSE some time ago.

Lower Intermediate

Develop your conversation skills.

You will have studied the language for at least 5 years.

Intermediate

This level is for you if you can already talk about yourself and others describe events and situations in the present and past, make recommendations, give advice, express likes and dislikes and express how you feel.

Upper Intermediate

At this level you will have a good grasp of grammar and the spoken language, or would like to regain fluency in a language which you learnt to a good standard many years ago.

Advanced Culture and Conversation

You will have already studied the language to an upper intermediate or advanced level and you will be able to describe past, present and future events. This course will be suitable for you if you have a keen interest in exploring culture and discovering development in society in a relaxed and collaborative environment.

Lower Advanced

This course is suitable for people who can speak fluently and are interested in developing their conversation skills. You will have studied for at least 6 years.

Advanced

This course is suitable for people will good listening, speaking and grammar skills. You should be able to recount past events using different tenses, make future plans, use the subjunctive, and understand films, novels and other literature in the language. You will have studied for at least 8 years
