Childcare Qualifications

This course is an apprenticeship
This course qualifies for the Advanced Learner Loan.

This qualification meets the needs of learners who work with children in a wide range of settings, for example in the roles of:

• Early Years Educator
• Child-minder
• Nursery Practitioner

To achieve the Early Years Educator Qualification at Level 3 you will need to complete 13 mandatory units, plus 4 assignments.

The Early Years Educator qualification provides the theory behind childcare, along with practical experience working in a childcare environment. It is a formal qualification offering knowledge of all aspects of childcare and its core values.
You will need maths and English GCSE at grade 4 or above or Functional skills Level 2 in order to make this a full and relevant qualification.
You can start this course on a date convenient to you. The assessment takes place through portfolio work. You will meet, 1-1, with your tutor for training and support on Skype/Zoom/Email/Phone calls and, when possible, face to face at work or at home.
Your course will last approximately 12 – 18 months.

This course qualifies for the Advanced Learner Loan.

This qualification will suit an individual who is already working or volunteering in a school for a minimum of 10 hours a week and wants a qualification that demonstrates their skills and develops their career.
A typical next step would be Higher Level Teaching Assistant qualifications (HLTA).

The Level 3 qualification offers training on:
• promoting positive behaviour
• supporting pupils
• using information and communication technology
• helping with children’s social development.

This course is an apprenticeship

This new apprenticeship is specifically designed for roles in children, young people and family focused settings including residential childcare settings.

Apprentices will learn to:

  • build relationships
  • develop in the health and social care sector
  • to communicate effectively with children and adults
  • to be non-judgemental
  • to understand age groups and families

What is included in the Children, young people & family practitioner standards:

  • Diploma for residential childcare Level 3
  • Functional skills – Maths level 2
  • Functional skills  – English level 2
  • End Point Assessment

What is included in the End Point Assessment?

The End-Point Assessment will use three assessment methods:

  • A portfolio of evidence
  • A professional discussion
  • A multiple choice knowledge test

How long does it take?

15 – 18 months, including End Point Assessment.

This course qualifies for the Advanced Learner Loan.

This qualification is intended for use by senior practitioners, managers, deputy managers and assistant managers who work within early year’s settings including:

• Integrated Children’s Centres
• Crèche
• Approved Home Care
• Out of school settings
• Day Nurseries
• Family Centres
• Playgroups

They are designed to guide and assess the development of knowledge and skills relating Children’s care, learning and development including those associated with leading teams and managing resources within an early years setting. This qualification will confer occupational competence to work in a management role.
