Community Navigators Training
If you support other people with information, advice or guidance, whether in your job, as a volunteer or in your community, this free training will help you do it with more confidence and skill.
Community Navigators is delivered by York Learning, in partnership with North Yorkshire Council. It’s designed for anyone who helps others make informed decisions about their learning, work and wellbeing.
What will I cover in the course?
The course introduces a range of learning and career opportunities and builds your understanding of the key information sources available to support others.
You will also:
- Explore your own strengths and preferences through the “personality animal” activity
- Be introduced to CiCi, the Careers Chatbot
- Learn how to identify suitable learning and career pathways, based on skills, interests and values
- Create your own Career Action Plan, and learn how to support others to do the same
Is this course for me?
This training is free and open to anyone who provides information, advice or guidance to others, including those working:
- In the workplace
- In voluntary or community roles
- In health or support settings
It is also open to anyone currently volunteering, or considering volunteering, in their community.
What type of course is this?
This is an interactive course. You will receive both verbal and written feedback from your tutor throughout.
Two ways to take part are available:
- Online course: various dates and times
- Community workshops: face-to-face sessions held on demand at venues across York, each lasting two hours, with additional sessions arranged where needed.
What do I need to bring?
Your organisation will need a device with internet access, such as a laptop, tablet or smartphone.
What will I get when I have completed the course?
On completing the course, you will gain a Certified Work and Skills Navigator digital badge, recognising your new skills. Your badge holds a record of everything you have learned and achieved on the course, so it is something you can share with others as proof of your new skills, and something to look back on yourself as a reminder of what you have achieved. You will also receive a £25 Love to Shop voucher and practical skills and resources to support others effectively.
What’s next?
After completing this training, there are opportunities for a range of further free courses are available, including the Level 2 Certificate in Information, Advice and Guidance. You will also have the opportunity to discuss your next steps with a member of the Information, Advice and Guidance Team.
