Childcare Qualifications

This course is an apprenticeship

This qualification meets the needs of learners who work with children in a wide range of settings, for example in the roles of:

 

  • Early years assistant
  • Preschool assistant
  • Playgroup assistant
  • After school assistant
  • Childminder/assistant

 

To achieve the Early Years Practitioner Qualification at Level 2 you will need to complete 9 mandatory units.

 

This qualification allows candidates to learn, develop and demonstrate the skills and knowledge required for employment and/or career progression in Early Years settings.

 

As well as learning many exciting skills specific to your course, you will also be evidencing and practising a range of transferable skills. Being able to demonstrate transferable skills will improve your confidence and self-awareness, make you more employable, and help you with further learning and volunteering. Employers value employees who have strong transferable skills, as they tend to have the tools to help them go beyond their job description.

 

On your Early Years qualification, you will be developing transferable skills such as communication skills, empathy and compassion, time management and organisational skills, flexibility and adaptability, attention to detail, commitment to learning.

 

You can start this course on a date convenient to you. The assessment takes place through portfolio work. You will meet, 1-1 and face to face, with your tutor, at your place of work for training and support. Tutors will also communicate via Teams/Zoom/Email/Phone calls.

Your course will last approximately 12 – 15 months.

 

The skills, experience, and knowledge you acquire on this course could lead to jobs such as Early Years Assistant in industries such as nurseries, preschools, playgroups, Out of School Clubs, Reception classes, and further learning such as a Level 3 Early Years Educator.

This course qualifies for the Advanced Learner Loan.

This qualification meets the needs of learners who work with children in a wide range of settings, for example in the roles of:

  • Early Years Educator
    • Child-minder
    • Nursery Practitioner

To achieve the Early Years Educator Qualification at Level 3 you will need to complete 13 mandatory units, plus 4 assignments.

The Early Years Educator qualification provides the theory behind childcare, along with practical experience working in a childcare environment. It is a formal qualification offering knowledge of all aspects of childcare and its core values.
You will need maths and English GCSE at grade 4 or above or Functional skills Level 2 in order to make this a full and relevant qualification.

This course qualifies for the Advanced Learner Loan.

This qualification will suit an individual who is already working or volunteering in a school for a minimum of 10 hours a week and wants a qualification that demonstrates their skills and develops their career.

A typical next step would be Higher Level Teaching Assistant qualifications (HLTA).

The Level 3 qualification offers training on:

  • promoting positive behaviour
    • supporting pupils
    • using information and communication technology
    • helping with children’s social development.

Your course will last approximately 12 – 18 months.

The skills, experience and knowledge you acquire on this course could lead to jobs such as Specialist Teaching Assistant in schools, and further learning such as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant.

This course qualifies for the Advanced Learner Loan.

This qualification is intended for use by senior practitioners, managers, deputy managers and assistant managers who work within early year’s settings including:

• Integrated Children’s Centres
• Crèche
• Approved Home Care
• Out of school settings
• Day Nurseries
• Family Centres
• Playgroups

 

They are designed to guide and assess the development of knowledge and skills relating Children’s care, learning and development including those associated with leading teams and managing resources within an early years setting. This qualification will confer occupational competence to work in a management role.

You can start this course on a date convenient to you. The assessment takes place through portfolio work. You will meet, 1-1 and face to face, with your tutor, at your place of work for training and support. Tutors will also communicate via Teams/Zoom/Email/Phone calls.

Your course will last approximately 12 – 18 months.

 

The skills, experience and knowledge you acquire on this course could lead to jobs such as Early Years Manager in industries such as nurseries, preschools, playgroups, Out of School Clubs, Reception classes, and further learning such as a BA Honours Degree in Early Years.
